Hi, I’m John Cal Kelleher — a dairy farmer from mid-Cork in Ireland.
In 2019, we needed a GPS guidance system for spreading fertiliser, slurry, spraying, and mowing on our farm. At the time, I was finishing a year at the Ignite Business Incubator in University College Cork, where I had been developing an electric fencing monitoring system, which didn’t work 🤦.
So I went back to what I knew — farming — milking cows twice a day, and trying to solve a real problem on our farm.
When I started researching guidance systems, I found the same thing again and again: they were expensive, overly complicated, and not designed with everyday farmers in mind.
That got me thinking — could I build something better?
Something simple.
Something practical.
Something anyone could use — whether they grew up with smartphones or not.
I thought it would be easier to build than buy (I was wrong).
I thought no one else would want one (I was wrong).
And I thought I’d have moved on to a different idea by 2020 (I was wrong).
But sometimes being wrong is exactly what leads you in the right direction.
